The Tortoise and the Hare

One day a hare was making fun of a tortoise for being so slow.

"Do you ever get anywhere?" the hare asked with a laugh.

"Yes," replied the tortoise, "and I get there sooner than you think. I'll run you a race and prove it."

The hare thought this was a good joke and agreed to the race. The fox was asked to be the judge, and he set the course and started the runners off.

The hare ran very fast. Soon he was far ahead of the tortoise. He decided to sit under a tree and take a nap.

"I can finish whenever I want," the hare said to himself. "That slowpoke will never catch up."

Meanwhile, the tortoise kept going, slowly but steadily, without stopping for a single moment.

When the hare finally woke up, he saw the tortoise was near the finish line. He ran as fast as he could, but it was too late.

The tortoise had already crossed the line and won the race.

The hare learned a lesson that day: "Slow and steady wins the race."
